Sound of Sunrise is a pop-up bookstore and exhibition space for new launches started by Hong Kong-based publisher StoryTeller, which is an extension of the StoryBunko book series.
Hong Kong-based design consultancy Third Paragraph worked on the exhibition identity and printed collateral.
The StoryBunko series, inspired by Japanese Bunko, are lightweight and pocket-sized books that allow you to enjoy beautiful stories anytime, anywhere.
In the past, people could not afford to buy books and knowledge was only for the affluent people, thus Bunko was created to solve this problem with a unified book size and binding specifications. The idea of ‘gifting‘ is the central concept of the Japanese Bunko, and was kept to pass on this tradition for 2022.
The exhibition was separated into two parts, each focusing on one book. Third Paragraph designed 8 exhibition posters, which can be bought as a gift at the exhibition.
The name Sunrise comes from the cover colour of the two books — Blue and Orange. The dividing lines on the gradient were intended to imply the idea of the two books.
The different tones of gradient depict the colours of the sunrise, echoing the stories in the two books. Readers were able to engage with the authors at the pop-up and take home the exhibition poster, which also can be used as wrapping paper for the books.

The typeface Whyte was chosen for its smooth and sharp angle on the letters. The sans serif typeface provided a fine and clean finish without taking over the focus on the gradient colours. It also enhances the elegant and poetic atmosphere, which perfectly suits the identity.
