To capture the festive spirit of Lunar New Year, STUDIOWMW carefully selected English fonts that exude a sense of joy and playfulness. The design studio also incorporated traditional Lunar New Year symbols such as mandarin oranges and cherry blossoms with a contemporary touch. The red packets come with interchangeable sleeves, allowing for mixing and matching. Additionally, each red packet features a stand at the back, which can be used to transform it into a standee that can be used as a decoration. Premium papers with different textures were used for the production with various printing techniques such as hot-stamping, 3D embossing and die-cut being applied to enhance the visual impact.
STUDIOWMW strived to challenge conventional design norms by incorporating bold and vibrant colours in their designs, with the aim of creating a modern and youthful aesthetic. The utilisation of such colours breaks away from the traditional red or gold colour scheme associated with red packets. Creating a functional colour palette posed a challenge for the studio as they aimed to challenge the conventional red and gold tones, while still incorporating youthful and festive design elements.
To ensure compatibility between the graphics and paper, STUDIOWMW had to carefully consider the properties of each type of paper. For example, a textured paper was selected for the mandarin orange graphic that complemented the design. For the bamboo graphics, a paper with a wooden texture was chosen to match the design aesthetic.
