Honey is the third most counterfeited food product globally. Nevertheless, Black Bee Honey takes a different approach by offering pure, single-origin, 100% British honey, intending to eliminate cheap sugar syrup blends from market shelves that originate from anonymous sources. Additionally, 2% of their turnover creates 1,000 acres of new wildflower meadows, essential habitats for honey bees and other pollinators.
London-based branding studio OMSE collaborated with Black Bee Honey to develop a new strategic positioning, 'Keep British Honey Wild,' and developed their visual identity to support their goal of becoming Britain's favourite honey brand.
The new brand seeks to free the bee, presenting a dynamic array of characters that symbolise Black Bee Honey's key values while paying homage to the diverse landscapes and seasons in which each honey is produced.
The brand’s rich, nature-connected ecosystem, created by OMSE, includes bespoke typefaces inspired by the movements of bees and the essence of honey, a colour palette that reflects the vibrancy of British flora, and art direction capturing the world through a bee's ultraviolet vision.
The studio developed Black Bee Sans, crafted in three weights – Drippy, Waggly, and Runny – as part of the visual identity. Sneak by Type Type was employed for the body copy to complement the headlines.
