500Mook is a magazine by Taiwanese newspaper publisher United Daily News that explores art, expression, and culinary culture, featuring collaborations with London's Tate Modern and the YAGEO Foundation. Through these partnerships, it delves into the power of artists and visionaries to capture moments, transcend boundaries, and ignite imagination.
Taipei-based design consultancy Local Remote collaborated with United Daily News to develop a publication with the depth of a book in the breadth of a magazine. In its debut and for many more issues, this has established a framework that aims to lay the foundation for a thinking room in the current era.

Local Remote published three covers, each featuring a unique graphic, to convey a singular topic in diverse tones. In the 'Book of Arrow,' the research unveils the variability in the linearity of reading culture across different communities. Each possesses its direction, and individuals globally may engage in the art of reading in distinct ways. This representation is illustrated visually by turning the wordmarks across the spreads. Similarly, the 'Book of Crossing Lines' seeks to capture the essence of what time could manifest under different contexts through a blend of media across various materials and dimensions. In the 'Book of Monuments,' the intention is to concentrate thoughts from multiple venues through imagery, presenting a dynamic portrayal of directions, circulation, repetition, and explosion — all within the realm of imagination for an ongoing human journey. This serves as a statement of what transcends time, hoping to shape the outline of history that resonates with anyone, in every form.
Under strict gridlines, the layout on the inner pages preserves ample white space for thoughts to wander between graphics and text, using these pauses to stimulate deeper contemplation.
